On 25 April, 24 students from F.1 to F.4, accompanied by three teachers, participated in a vibrant cross-curricular excursion to Cheung Chau. This collaborative initiative between the Citizenship and Social Development (CSD), Chinese History, and History departments aimed to transform textbook knowledge into a tangible lived experience.
The day kicked off at the Cheung Chau Cinema with a handmade“Cheung Chau Bun”Workshop, where students crafted the iconic "平安" buns. This was followed by a guided historical walk; while sampling the island’s famous giant fish balls, students listened to fascinating stories about the Cheung Chau Jiao Festival (太平清醮) and the legendary Bun Scrambling Competition (搶包山). The tour included a visit to the historic Pak Tai Temple, where students explored the island's spiritual roots. They also visited the site for the upcoming Bun Scrambling Competition, scheduled for late May, allowing them to visualize the scale of this cultural spectacle. By bridging academic theory with local traditions, the event fostered a deep appreciation for Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage.
