B. Purposes

• General
1. To promote an interest in the study of living organisms.
2. To cultivate the appreciation, caring and respect of life and nature.
3. To promote an awareness and appreciation of the significance of biological knowledge in personal, social, environmental and technological contexts.
4. To develop skills of students' in communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, information technology and problem solving.
5. To provide experiences of life wide learning in students.
• For Form Three to Form Five
1. To develop an understanding of the scientific method and its application.
2. To provide a basic biological knowledge for life in the modern world for students not intending to study Biology at a higher level.
3. To provide a suitable preparation for further studies in Biology and related disciplines.
4. To build up a sense of healthy life style in students.
• For Form Six to Form Seven
1. To develop candidates' ability to retrieve appropriate information from proper sources; to develop their confidence in self-learning and to give them a sense of achievement.
2. To encourage independence in students' studies.
3. To prepare candidates to become responsible citizens in a changing world.

C. Programs carried out in department

1. Health education and introduction on genetics in F.3
2. Exhibition in Open Day - October, 2005 (Refer to photos)
3. Rat dissection in F.5 and F.6 students
4. Field trips for F.6 students.
5. Discussion on the technologies, effects and ethics in GM food and cloning in F.3 students
6. Investigation on one chosen topic in Biology and make presentation file using IT aids in F.4 students.
7. The skills of communication, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and numeracy in students are trained in practical lessons.
